Turbocharged Engines
The Throttle Body Injector (TBI) can be used with a turbocharger if it is located
upstream of the turbocharger, with the turbo drawing through the Throttle Body.
Because the TBI is not designed to seal against boost pressure, applications in which
it receives high pressure air from the turbocharger must either enclose the TBI in a
pressurized box, or modify the seals to prevent leakage of air and fuel. Also, a
fuel system must be developed which supplies a constant 5 psi above boost pressure.
The design of any turbocharger installation will require substantial engineering to
design a good-performing, safe system.
