Throttle Body Orientation
Because the Throttle Body Injector is controlled by a diaphragm rather than a float, it
is generally insensitive to the effects of gravity or to
acceleration "G" loads. It may therefore be installed in just about any
orientation without effecting its fuel metering.
The italicized words above are necessary because of the following minor restrictions to
the ways in which the TBI can be installed:
- The metering tube must be parallel to the aircraft's horizontal plane, which in no way
prevents it from being updraft, downdraft, sidedraft, or anyplace in between.
- Because of the way air enters the TBI, fuel distribution will be best if the unit is
installed so that the throttle moves spanwise rather than fore and aft. Although
this rule can be violated, it may require experimentation with the inlet
airbox configuration.
